Wandee Kirkland
Obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemisty and Biology in 1999 and began studying
defensive pistol in 2001. A National Rifle Association (NRA) Certified Pistol Instructor, Wandee
received his certifications at NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. He stays up-to-date on
the latest defensive pistol techniques by training with other instructors, law enforcement and
military personnel. His love for the study of defensive pistol has led him to create CeFense and
pass what he learns onto his students. He takes a scientific approach to testing and reviewing
various techniques before applying them to CeFense training courses. Also, he has trained in
multiple martial arts, specifically Kenpo and Kali. He is married and lives in Denver, Colorado.
John Tafoya
Started teaching in 2002 after joining the United States Army attending multiple military schools. He
later volunteered for the US Army Rangers and achieved the status of Team and Squad Leader. His
duties were, but not limited to:
- Teach his men marksmanship and maintenance with various firearms
- Instruct in Combat Lifesaver Procedures
- Train his men on Battle Drills
- Teach Close Quarter Battle (CQB)
- Teach his men on the various devices used for breaching
- Conducting martial arts exercises, primarily Jujitsu
John was deployed five times into combat zones from Iraq to Afghanistan. After receiving an
Honorable discharge from the US Army, he attended college for Peace Officer Standards Training in 2007.
He is married and currently serves with the Louisville Police Department Special Service Unit.
